The basic definition of learner variability is that all individuals are unique in how they learn. Each student brings a different learning style to the classroom or workplace environment. The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework asks that educators embrace the idea of learner variability as an asset when thinking about their students and their curriculum. Starting from a place of acceptance of learner variability will allow educators to use UDL principles to design ways for all students to engage, understand and respond in more meaningful ways.
